Beschrijving :

Remote sensing data are affected by a variety of instrumental and atmospheric effects, as well as retrieval uncertainties, that may alter their geophysical interpretation and need to be characterised in details. Establishing consistency between data obtained from different platforms is also critical in the context of long-term, global changes of the atmospheric composition. Therefore data products and their related retrieval algorithms require an iterative validation/maturation, in the short and long term and on the global scale, to meet quality criteria specific to, and to understand how satellite data can be used for scientific applications intended in other AO projects involving BIRA-IASB and ULg as well as the international community. BIRA-IASB and ULg have built up a unique expertise in this domain thanks to their implication in both the NDSC ground-based network and the science/algorithm teams of space-based missions.
