Research project SD/CL/007 (Research action SD)
Interact is a cluster of four research units in the framework of "Science for a Sustainable Development", addressing access to places and to transport from different, complementary angles: accessibility and performance of infrastructure, regional economics, health, ... The purpose of the cluster is an interdisciplinary collaboration to compare, deepen and translate the previously acquired knowledge into a new vision, along with policy recommendations based on an integrated approach.
The goals of Interact are summarized as follows:
1. Harmonization of multidisciplinary research, data and analysis;
2. Improvement of insight into the motivations, dynamics, interactions and effects of socio-economic and cultural activities related to human mobility;
3. Recommendations for policy makers, planners, engineers and other experts;
4. Developing a "toolbox" for the evaluation of accessibility issues in urban planning, transport and mobility;
5. Communication of results in a book, an interactive website, a DVD and a seminar.
The partnership lasts 24 months and consists of four work packages.
In WP1, a conceptual framework is developed through a system-based analysis on previous research results. In addition, specific analyses are prepared: what do the research results imply for specific locations, particularly around stations. Another section focuses on a particular group (people older than 65) and examines the objective and subjective health effects of mobility.
In WP2, the first results are presented to experts (scientists, policy makers, planners, …) in an online open questionnaire followed by a workshop. The purpose of this workshop is to compare and discuss opinions, goals, indicators, … from the perspective of different disciplines.
In the following phase, the insights gained during the workshop, are used to further process the results of WP1 to produce a book, an interactive website, a DVD and scientific articles to ensure the communication to decision makers in addition to the scientific publication of the research.
This is followed by a seminar to disseminate the results of the cluster.
