Angelique Van Ombergen graduated with a PhD in Medical Sciences from the University of Antwerp and continued her research on spaceflight-induced brain changes during a postdoc. She is currently still affiliated to the University of Antwerp as a visiting professor.
She joined the European Space Agency in 2019 and is currently working as Discipline Lead for Life Sciences. In practice this means she is coordinating ESA’s biology and health research activities across several space platforms (International Space Station, parabolic flight, bedrest, etc.).
In this talk, Ms Van Ombergen will provide a non-exhaustive overview of the platforms and opportunities in Europe to conduct research in Low Earth Orbit as well as in ground facilities simulating space (aspects).
