| Description nl | Hedendaagse ontwerpoplossingen voor groene infrastructuur botsen in veel gevallen op een gebrek aan betrokkenheid van burgers en burgerorganisaties. Bovendien ontbreekt zowel in de (ecologische) wetenschap als in het ontwerp de expertise om menselijke en niet-menselijke wezens (planten, dieren, organisch materiaal) op een duurzame manier te laten samenwerken. ‘Groene Participatie’ onderzoekt de mogelijkheden en de valkuilen van een dergelijke mogelijke samenwerking vanuit een historisch perspectief. Het richt zich op het werk van de Nederlandse landschapsontwerper Louis le Roy (1924-2012), die eind jaren 1960 een van de eerste figuren in Europa was die participatieve processen in de praktijk van het landschapsontwerp bracht. Het werk van le Roy dient als uitgangspunt om de actoren, netwerken en ontwerpmethodes betrokken bij een inclusieve opvatting van ecologisch landschapsontwerp bloot te leggen. Tevens onderzoekt ‘Groene Participatie’ hoe sociopolitieke vraagstukken in le Roy’s theoretische reflectie en projecten werden aangepakt.Het onderzoek zal leiden tot een doctoraat waarin een grondige analyse van publicaties, archieven, mondelinge getuigenissen en gerealiseerde projecten een inzicht verschaft in het werk van le Roy, en van daaruit een dialoog te ontwikkelen tussen de (ontwerp)geschiedenis en de Environmental Humanities, Political Ecology en verwante domeinen. Naast het doctoraat mikt het project ook op de uitbouw van een internationaal academisch netwerk.

| Description en | Contemporary design solutions for green infrastructure often come up against a lack of involvement of citizens and citizens organizations. Moreover, both (ecological) science and design lack the expertise to enable human beings and non-human beings (plants, animals, organic material) to work together in a sustainable way. ‘Green Participation explores the possibilities and pitfalls of such a possible collaboration from a historical perspective. It focuses on the work of the Dutch landscape designer Louis le Roy (1924-2012), who at the end of the 1960s was one of the first figures in Europe to put participatory processes into practice in landscape design. The work of le Roy serves as a starting point to expose the actors, networks and design methods involved in an inclusive conception of ecological landscape design. At the same time Green Participation investigates how sociopolitical issues were addressed in le Roys theoretical reflection and projects.The research will lead to a PhD in which a thorough analysis of publications, archives, oral testimonies and realized projects will provide a profound insight into le Roys work, and from there develop a closer dialogue between design history and the Environmental Humanities, (Political) Ecology, Science and Technology Studies and related domains. In addition to the PhD, the project also aims at the development of an international academic network.
