| Description nl | Gabriel Biel (+1495), de eerste hoogleraar in de theologie aan de destijds nog jonge universiteit van Tübingen, werd in een vroege fase in zijn leven gevormd als academisch theoloog volgens de principes van de nominalisten. In een volgend stadium was hij als predikant actief om in het laatste stadium van zijn leven als Fraterherr de spiritualiteit van de Moderne Devotie te omarmen. De historiografie van het onderzoek naar zijn leven en werk wijst uit dat vooral zijn theologische overtuigingen op een systematische wijze zijn onderzocht (in het licht van beïnvloeding door Ockham of beïnvloeding van Luther), zonder dat men daarbij de historisch-chronologische ontwikkelingsgang in kaart heeft gebracht. Vanuit onze biografische insteek willen wij onderzoeken hoe zijn mens- en godsbeeld beïnvloed werden door de spiritualiteit van de Moderne Devotie? In recente literatuur is een aanzet tot dit onderzoek gegeven. In dit onderzoek wordt de wisselwerking tussen de spiritualiteit van de Moderne Devotie en de theologie van de Via moderna, zoals deze in het werk van Gabriel Biel aan het licht treedt, in beeld gebracht.

| Description en | Gabriel Biel (+1495), the first professor of theology at the then still young University of Tübingen, was from an early stage in his life, educated as an academic theologian according to the principles of the nominalists. At a later stage he was active as a preacher and in a final stage of his life he embraced, as a Fraterherr, the spirituality of the Modern Devotion. The historiography of the research into his life and work shows that his theological convictions in particular have been systematically investigated in the context of influence by Ockham or influence on Luther. Opting for a biographical approach, we want to examine how his views on the human and God have been influenced by the spirituality of the Modern Devotion? In recent literature attention is drawn to this field of research. Following this development, this research examines the interaction between the spirituality of Modern Devotion and the theology of the Via Moderna, as revealed in the works of Gabriel Biel.
