| Description nl | Dir project onderzoekt de ontwikkeling van het uiterlijk-innerlijk onderscheid in het denken van Augustinus met betrekking tot epistemologie en soteriologie. Ten eerste volgt het de ontwikkeling van het uiterlijk-innerlijk onderscheid betreffende de verschuiving in Augustinus denken tussen zijn vroegere en latere epistemologische denken, door een chronologische studie van zijn geschriften mbt epistemologie. Hier stellen we de vraag: is er een verschil en/of evolutie aan de duiden? Ten tweede wordt deze vraag mbt het uiterlijk-innerlijk onderscheid ook toegepast op Augustinus theologisch denken over incarnatie en ecclesiologie. De studie zal resulteren in een uitgebreid, contextueel en filosofisch coherent inzicht van de mogelijke ontwikkeling(en) van dit stucturerend uiterlijk-innerlijk principe van het filosofische en theologische denken van Augustinus.

| Description en | This project examines the development of the Inner/Outer distinction in Augustines thought with regard to epistemology and soteriology. First, it traces the development of the Inner/Outer distinction in connection with Augustines epistemological shift between his early and "mature" thought, analysing the changes in Augustines thought by comparing his epistemological writings from different time periods. It considers the role of the development of Augustines understanding of the Inner/Outer relation in his long-term epistemological shift. Second, it considers the reciprocal relationship between the development of Augustines Inner/Outer distinction and his theological formation concerning theologyof the Incarnation and ecclesiology. The study will produce a comprehensive contextual and philosophically coherent account of the development of the structural principle of Augustines philosophical and theological thought.
