| Description nl | De focus van dit PHD onderzoek ligt op de manier waarop de dialoog tussen mens en natuur mogelijkheden biedt voor een duurzaam verstedelijkingsproces om zo een antwoord te bieden op toekomstige maatschappelijke uitdagingen. De huidige verspreide configuraties noodzaken om de dialogen binnen een artificiele, menselijke in situ-verstedelijking te onderzoeken. Het onderzoek focust op die strategische knooppunten in de netwerken van een verspreide verstedelijking die een volgende stedelijke configuratie kunnen sturen. Het onderzoek vertrekt vanuit een relevante regionale case: de regio van de Eurometropool een transnationaal netwerk tussen Lille, Tournai en Kortrijk. Relevante deelprojecten op de kleine en intermediaire schaal worden in de loop van het onderzoeksproces bepaald, om zo sleutelplekken te identificeren in de evolutie van de verspreide verstedelijking.Het doel is om een perspectief en houding te beschrijven om vergelijkbare situaties en structuren te verkennen in AC/AL

| Description en | The objective of this PhD research is to provide insights on how new reciprocal relations between human and nature can provide opportunities for future sustainable urban development in order to anticipate possible futures. As current dispersed spatial configurations induce the urge to reinvent the reciprocal relations between the in-situ urbanisation of a man-made landscape the research aims to investigate which nodes in the dispersed network can redirect the current course of urban transformations. The research focuses on a relevant regional case: the region of the Eurometropolis, a transnational network covering Lille, Tournai and Kortrijk. Relevant cases on an intermediate and small scale will be determined during the investigation, so as to identify relevant key sites. The objective is to develop a design lens and attitude to address similar cases and configurations in AC/AL.The research aims at a diptych of outcomes. In the first place, the objective is to provide an alternative way of thinking about dispersed territories, as a third urban condition and the emphasis on the opportunities it offers for urban transformation processes. Secondly, it wants to introduce concrete design strategies to celebrate and profit from the complexity of dispersion by conceptualizing its strategic nodes. In that way the research contributes to insights in urban theory as in urban practice.
