Description nl	De complexe relaties tussen moslims en christenen in de laatste decennia van de twintigste en eerste decennia van de eenentwintigste eeuw worden geanalyseerd, aan de hand van volgende focussen: 1) de dialooginitiatieven die de Heilige Stoel ontwikkelde na het Conciliedocument Nostra Aetate (1965) en de Wereldgebedsdag voor de Vrede in Assisi (1986); 2) de perceptie van en het antwoord op deze initiatieven in de islamitische wereld (in concreto de Al Azhar Universiteit in Caïro, Egypt); 3) het concipiëren van een breder onderzoek naar de impact van historische conflicten en islamitisch-christelijke contacten in de beeldvorming over het christelijke en seculiere westen in islamculturen.
Description en	The complex relationships between Muslims and Christians in the last decades of the twentieth century and first decades of the twenty-first century are analysed, with the focus on the following: 1) the dialogue initiatives developed by the Holy See after the Second Vatican Council document Nostra Aetate (1965) and the World Day of Prayer for Peace in Assisi (1986); 2) the perception of and response to these initiatives in the Islamic world (specifically by the Al Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt); 3) the impact of historical conflicts and Islamic-Christian contacts on the perception in Islamic cultures of the Christian and secular West.
