ERA-NET (European Research Area Network)
ERA-NET under Horizon 2020 is a funding instrument designed to support public-public partnerships in their preparation, establishment of networking structures, design and implementation, coordination of joint activities.
The focus of ERA-NET has shifted from funding networks to 'topping-up' funding of single joint-calls for transnational research and innovation. This is done in selected areas with high European added-value and Horizon 2020 relevance.
The aim is to increase substantially the share of funding that Member States dedicate jointly to challenge driven research and innovation agendas.
BELSPO contributes to the following ERA-nets:
- The loss of biodiversity and the degradation of ecosystems are major scientific and societal challenges..
- Cross-boundary, cross-community research with the overall goal to improve coherence, integration and robustness of climate impact research.
- The ERA4CS Consortium is aiming to boost, research for Climate Services (CS), including climate adaptation, mitigation and disaster risk management.
- Heritage Plus is an Era-Net plus action which will support the JPI Cultural Heritage.
- A partnership of national research funding agencies in Europe dedicated to leading and developing opportunities for scientists in the area of social and behavioural sciences.
- SEAS-ERA, as an overarching marine FP7 ERA-NET, is of strategic importance for the European Research Area.
