The research vessel Belgica was built in 2021. This new multidisciplinary research vessel will support scientific research as well as this country's national and international obligations for monitoring the Belgian marine space for the next 30 years.
The Belgian Biodiversity Platform is a science-policy interface, acting as a knowledge broker towards international bodies, catalysing the dialogue between scientists, decision-makers and practitioners, mobilising data and helping the scientific community.
Since 2009, Belgium has again a scientific station in Antarctica. The Princess Elisabeth Base was built in Dronning Maud Land, East-Antarctica. The research station is build on rocks so it would not drift to the coast. The basis works on sustainable energy from solar panels and wind turbines.
