Belgian Science Policy

Swallows are becoming a rare sight in Belgium. It is essential to protect their nesting sites. Destroying a nest is a criminal offence.

Numerous species are threatened in Belgium. The state of biodiversity in our country is regularly qualified as “very bad”: cod, bats, hamsters, water voles and swallows are becoming extinct. Approximately one third of the species present in our country are threatened by extinction. Since 1985, the Belgian Science Policy has been financing research on sustainable development and has set up a national biodiversity platform.
