Research project DB/DD/011 (Research action DB)
This project's objective is to make available to social science researchers and policy-makers the federal administrative databases pertaining to the health system. The specific tasks are as follows.
1. A documentary task
To identify, collect, and exploit federal administrative databases, other sources of statistics, and the scientific literature to the benefit of social science researchers and policy-makers. To render this information accessible, notably via diskettes and Internet. Versions of DOC-SANTE and QUI-SANTE are available on Internet (UCL).
2. To develop databases and statistical indicators
Here the work involves relating the data of administrative databases to data from other sources so as to develop integrated databases and statistical indicators concerning the health field. The two teams are working on user-friendly statistical information systems: Infosource (VUB) and Info-Santé with the ARIS software (UCL). A first version of Info-Santé is already available on CD-ROM.
Regarding the content, the field is defined as follows: the VUB team emphasises the topic "social inequality and health differences" and the UCL team stresses the topic "Health and Lifestyle".
3. Impulse to scientific debate
Here the aim is to improve the dialogue between university researchers and public institutions through two-way exchange of information, the organisation of study sessions and of topic-centred publications.
