Research project IT/IF/008 (Research action IT)

Persons :

Description :

1) The aim of the sub-project is to study techniques for fine analysis of multiprocesses with a common memory. The following aspects will be studied
: (i) the interaction between intrusiveness and observability in such systems and (ii) the use of modern "window" systems to set up such a user
interface.

2) The aim of the sub-project is to create a man-computer interface allowing a dynamic graphical approach to the statistical analysis of clusters. The transferability of the interface and its functionality in a distributed computational environment will be ensured by basing the interface on the X window system. It can be expected that the methodology established to develop this interface will be sufficiently general to allow the design of
other dynamic graphic software.

3) Thanks to the new superscalar RISC processors, parallel multiprocessor architectures are becoming competitive with supercomputers. Unlike existing vectorizer software, there are no general tools to split up a programme for a parallel machine. The project aims to develop a tool to split up programs automatically, based on an equivalent tool designed for a prototype multiprocessor, the LEM analyser.
