Research project JU/05 (Research action JU)
The proteiform protest movement expresses complex grievances. The main goal of this research project is to study the people's reactions (petitions, 'white' or 'multicoloured' marches, letters to the editor, etc.) as components of a complaint whose meaning must be explored. This decoding is indespensable, for the pertinence of the public authorities answers to the people's questions will depend to a great extent on their ability to take the diversity and complexity of the social complaint into account. Failing such an analysis, we run the risk of making do with a mere reform of the criminal justice system which, however far reaching and radical it might be, could only fall short of society's expectations and be rejected as being superficial in view of the magnitude of the political problems raised.
More specifically, the study of the social complaint has five objectives, namely:
1) to record the social complaint in all its complexity;
2) to study the social characteristics of the people voicing it;
3) to study how the social demands have structured themselves;
4) to study the credit given to potential relays of the complaint;
5) to study how the emerging demands underline a challenging of a model of justice and legal regulations specific to a modern constitutional state.
