Research project MO/33/008 (Research action MO)
The EUREF (EPN) permanent network is a scientific network of permanent GPS stations whose coordinates, calculated weekly, are used to organise the European Terrestrial Reference System (ETRS89). The EPN's central bureau is under the responsibility of the Royal Observatory of Belgium (ORB).
The EPN has recently attracted the attention of other scientific disciplines such as geodynamics, monitoring of mean ocean levels, and climate studies. This trend accounts in part for the EPN's development towards near-real-time operations.
This project's goal is to develop rapid quality tests for all levels of the EPN (raw GPS data, data flow and coordinates). These tests respond to the needs of emerging scientific applications and will be used by the EPN's central bureau to monitor the network constantly.
