Methods for designing and evaluating road bridges under actual traffic

Research project NO/B/011 (Research action NO)

Persons :

Description :

The objective of the project is to enhance the Belgian capability for developing scientifically and technically proven methods of designing ways of evaluating road bridges. This covers:

1. Developing a classification system for bridges under actual traffic for which the basis is contained in the Belgian DAN of Eurocode 1.3 (new works/rehabilitated works/acceptable existing works/existing works requiring traffic restrictions);

2. Developing this methodology to assess and manage the bridges in the road system, particularly those on highways of European importance (Geneva Convention E roads and the European Union's TERN roads).

3. Promote the application of the European Construction Directive to those products developed in Belgium for designing new construction (pre-cast slab bridges) or rehabilitating existing structures (road surfaces).
