PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT

Third Call 2023
The Council of Minister has approved the Defence Science and Technology Programme for 2023, including the third DEFRA call. The third DEFRA call will be launched on 7 February 2023.
The third call of the DEFRA programme covers the following research themes:

  • Theme 1: CYBER – Automated certification of software
  • Theme 2: Autonomous systems – Human-machine Teaming
  • Theme 3: Open theme SMEs - Research on innovative and future-oriented defence solutions with specific interest for CBRN-Medical Response, Decontamination and Protection and Weapon Systems - Improved ammunition systems
  • Theme 4: Advanced sensor technologies - Radar and (multi)-sensor systems
  • Theme 5: Materials - Protective characteristics

Information Session "Third call for proposals"

A specific information session on the third call will take place on 13 February 2023, from 14h00 to 16h00 in meeting room "Frank De Winne" of the Royal Military Academy (Blok I, entrance via rue Hobbemastraat 8, 1000 Brussels). The DEFRA team will explain the objectives, themes and practical modalities of this third call for proposals for researchers from both the public and private sectors.

Closed calls

Second Call 2022
On 1st April 2022, the Council of Minister has approved the Defence Science and Technology Research Programme, including DEFRA. Thus, the second call for proposals is now officially open.
This second call will cover 4 themes with an indicative budget of 1.600k€ each:

  • Space weather for security and defence applications
  • 5/6G for military, security and crisis applications
  • Sustainable and "green" energy applications for military use
  • Preventive medicine for improved soldier fitness
