Space in the European Union
- Europe's objective is to provide itself with strategic space systems responding to the needs of the European citizens through a European Space Policy and its operational arm: the European Space Programme.
- The EU Space Programme consists currently of 4 components: Galileo and EGNOS (satellite navigation), Copernicus (Earth observation), Space Situational Awareness (Space Surveillance and Tracking, Space weather and Near-Earth Objects) and Govsatcom (secure satellite communications).
- Horizon Europe is the new European framework for research and innovation starting on January 1st 2021 for a period of 7 years (2021-2027).
- Horizon 2020 is the European Commission's programme to stimulate European research and innovation. Horizon 2020 is the successor of the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) and covers the period 2014-2020.
- Within the Council of the EU, Belgium participates in the Space Working Party which examines all Space issues at political level, under the aegis of the various rotating Presidencies of the EU.
