Bilateral cooperations

Belgium has built numerous historical cooperation ties in the space domain, mainly with France. Indeed, the cooperation in the SPOT-programme dates back to 1979.

Since then, Belgium has concluded other bilateral intergovernmental agreements on space projects (with Argentina and with Russia) or on general cooperative frameworks. Those latter instruments took the form of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and provide the guidelines for the cooperation the States parties wish to investigate and to develop. Such MoU's have been signed with Canada, Viet-Nam, China, Mexico, United Arab Emirates.

Besides, a joint declaration between Belgium and Luxembourg concerns the development of an international framework for the exploitation of space resources. A cooperation agreement has also been signed with the United States' department of Defence on the exchange of orbital operation data.
