The ten Federal Scientific Institutions (FSI), which are part of the Belgian Science Policy, have conserved, developed, studied and promoted an exceptional scientific, artistic and historical heritage for more than two centuries. Their national and international vocation is reflected in their specific missions of public scientific service, research and contribution to the international image of Belgium.

Royal Museums for Art and History (KMKG-MRAH)

The KMKG-MRAH encompass various renowned museums in Brussels: the Art & History Museum, the Halle Gate and the Musical Instruments Museum (MIM).

Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium (KMSKB-MRBAB)

The KMSKB-MRBAB is comprised of several entities: the Musée Old Masters Museum, the Musée Modern Museum, the Musée Wiertz Museum and the Musée Meunier Museum, the Musée Magritte Museum and the new Musée Fin-de-Siècle Museum.

Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK-IRPA)

The KIK-IRPA has been devoted to the study and conservation of the artistic and cultural heritage of this country. Paintings, sculpture in wood and stone, tapestries, objects made of precious metals and glass, and even buildings are expertly researched and treated there.

Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (KBIN-IRSNB)

The KBIN-IRSNB is involved in important scientific research activities and carries out public service missions. It is open to everyone through the Museum of Natural Sciences. The Dinosaur Gallery is world famous and the largest in Europe.

Royal Museum for Central Africa (KMMA-MRAC)

The KMMA-MRAC is a world centre for research and dissemination of knowledge on the past and present of societies and natural environments in Africa and particularly in Central Africa.

Space

Royal Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy (BIRA-IASB)

The main tasks of the BIRA are research and public service in space aeronomy, which is the physics and chemistry of the atmosphere of the Earth and other planets, and of outer space.

Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium (KMI-IRM)

The KMI-IRM communicates the weather forecast to the public and the authorities. It will warn you when weather might cause damage in Belgium due to thunder storms, heat waves or storms. The KMI-IRM perform scientific research about ozone layer, the climate, meteorological satellites and radars and numerical weather prediction.

Royal Observatory of Belgium (KSB-ORB) and the Planetarium

The KSB-ORB study the planet Earth and other, near and distant objects in space.
The Planetarium is a magical place to discover the beauty of the starry sky.

State Archives (RA-AE)

The tasks of the State Archives are numerous: acquiring archives, making them accessible, valorising, conducting scientific research, preserving and managing more than 315 kilometres of archives.
CEGESOMA is part of the State Archives.

KBR

KBR is the national scientific library and collects all Belgian publications. It preserves, manages and studies more than 8 million documents, a rich cultural and historical heritage. KBR provides access to all information in its collections, facilitates research and offers a broad cultural experience.
